WhatsApp recently released five new features to the messenger app. Dark Mode is also coming to WhatsApp soon.
- WhatsApp beta users on iOS can now stream Netflix trailers in PiP mode within the app.
- WhatsApp launched the FaceID lock and fingerprint lock feature for iOS and Android devices.
- iOS users can now use the Boomerang feature to create GIFs.
Dark theme has become a trend these days. Whether it’s your computer or your smartphone, the demand for a dark theme is high. This is the reason why almost all leading software companies including Google has jumped in to be a part of this trend. WhatsApp, the most widely-used instant app is no different. The rumours of WhatsApp working on dark mode has been doing rounds for a while now and there are chances that it could debut on the app soon.
But dark mode is not the only much-awaited feature to come on WhatsApp. The chat company has recently added several other important features to the app with an aim to improve the user experience. Here is a list of top 5 features that have made it to the app recently or are underworks.
–– Group invite with better control: WhatsApp made a small but very effective change to its group privacy feature recently. The app has replaced the “Nobody” option with “My contact except” which gives better control to users over who can add them to groups. People added to this option will be required to send a group invite via personal chat and user will have three days to accept or decline the invite.
— Dark mode: WhatsApp is working on the much-awaited dark mode feature for a while now. The feature is expected to come soon officially. As the name suggests, enabling dark mode or dark theme in WhatsApp will soften the colours in the app and blacken the background so that users less strain their eyes when using the app in darkness. The dark mode also lowers the phone’s battery drainage but only if the phone is OLED model.
— Netflix in PiP mode: WhatsApp beta users on iOS can now stream Netflix trailers in PiP mode within the app. Note that the PiP mode was launched earlier this year but it did not support Netflix videos. The feature is yet to roll out in the stable version of the app.
— Fingerprint lock: WhatsApp launched the FaceID lock and fingerprint lock feature for iOS users earlier this year, months before it launched. the feature on Android. The feature ensures better privacy on the app when your phone is left unattended. You can enable a native lock for the app using your biometrics- fingerprint on Android and fingerprint along with Face ID on iOS.
— Boomerang feature for iOS: Similar to Instagram, iOS users can now use the Boomerang feature to create GIFs of less than seven seconds. The feature is available on iOS only for now.
